Beanman meets Joni Mitchell? How did this concept come about?
In 1976, Kimball and I were drawing comics all the time after school. We were both huge Joni Mitchell fans and her records were constantly being played as we laughed and drew. Somehow we came up with the strange idea to have Beanman meet Joni and act as her bodyguard. In those innocent days long ago, many of my teenage fantasies found there way out through comics. I remember the hardest part was finding photo references of Joni Mitchell. These were pre-computer days when images could not be found with a click of a mouse. We swiped every photo or drawing of Joni that we could find in magazines, newspapers and record covers.
Looking back, I see Organic Tales #2 as a sort of love letter from two teenage boys to a beautiful, talented musician. Enjoy!
